CVS holds first cardiology CPD event across multiple referral centres
CVS has held its first ever cardiology CPD day across multiple referral centres.
Taking place on 3rd October at Nailcote Hall, Coventry, the CardioVet Symposium; Advancing Cardiology in Veterinary Practice event was attended by 100 primary care practitioners and nurses from multiple veterinary practices from across the country.
The day covered multiple cardiology and anaesthesia topics including; staging of myxomatous mitral valve disease, arrhythmias, new techniques for the treatment of mitral valve and congenital heart disease and approaches to patients with cardiac disease that need anaesthesia. It aimed to arm primary care vets and nurses with the information needed to approach some of the more common cardiac issues dealt with in practice, including their anaesthetic management. The inclusion of newer techniques available to dogs and cats within the field of veterinary cardiology also meant that delegates were brought up to the cutting-edge of veterinary medicine.
A panel discussion was also held at the end of the day where a wide range of questions were asked by the audience on topics, ranging from feline heart disease to dilated cardiomyopathy.
During the event, CPD sessions were held by six specialists from three of CVS Group’s referral hospitals; Liz Bode, Clinical Director at Chestergates Veterinary Specialists, EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology; Mattia Basili, Consultant at Chestergates Veterinary Specialists and EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology; Eoin Kilkenny, Consultant at Bristol Vet Specialists and EBVS® European Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology; Sam Gomart, Consultant at Bristol Vet Specialists and Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine; Jo Murrell, Consultant at Bristol Vet Specialists and EBVS® European Specialist in Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia; and, Julie Hamilton-Elliott, Consultant at Northern Ireland Veterinary Specialists and ECVIM Specialist in Cardiology.
